Nice list. I'm looking for something from Elizabeth 1 (maybe a sovereign or half sovereign), Edward VI, Cromwell and Saladin. I know it won't be easy or cheap.....have to find a bank that's a soft target:D:D;)

Gorgeous line-up @1934 Wreath Crown ! I seriously thought on that Alex AV 1/4 Stater... well done!

Personally, I will not slab. If I acquire slabbed, I always free them. Slabbed are for modern terrified-coin-touchers. Ancient collectors appreciate the FEEL of coins. :)

You'd be surprised. People pay a lot more (and dealers ask a lot more) for slabbed coins for the sake that they are slabbed. There is a false sense of security in slabbed coins.

The local coin dealer in Greensboro bought what I thought was a $700 Alexander Tet. It was certified as AU by NGC and had a WINGS (what is this) sticker. He paid $1200.

That is just my "haves" list. My "wants" list is longer.

Others have already said it and I agree wholeheartedly - that is a seriously awesome start for an ancients based collection.

    Well done!

Yes, you're right of course. Collectors of moderns prefer slabs, and will pay a premium for them. I should have qualified my comment to include only the old-school collectors of ancients. I've never met a slab I haven't destroyed.

    1. You are certifiably crazy

    2. There are fantastic high grade examples.

My favourite here is the Julius Caesar elephant. Off centre slightly perhaps, but loads of eye appeal. You did well!

Welcome to the dark side, @1934 Wreath Crown... what an entrance! I won't argue one way or the other for slabbing, but I do recommend holding these wonderful coins in your hands at least once first to feel for yourself the weight of their 2,000 years of history. It's just not the same through plastic :).

This is what I call a 'modest' start with ancients:).
    Congratulations!

Great selection, well chosen, each and every one - my favorite is the Octavian denarius with Quadriga. A very nice example.

That auction had some great material - I was really lusting after one of the denarii and put in what I thought was a nuclear bid. Not nuclear enough, apparently....

Yes they did have some very nice high-grade coins in the auction. I was initially encouraged by their extremely low estimates, but obviously, the other serious collectors were not fooled.:wacky:

I had set my sights on a couple of Marc Antony legionary denarii but they went for £2,000 plus.

Ah well.....live to fight another day....and I'll try not to get nuked:D

Not for a while I think

I'm looking at some boring modern coins in July-August. Some that I've been after for a long time. Have to save for those :D
