Perusing through the latest CNG auction and apparently someone decided to test their shredders strength with an Aureus! Never seen something like this before and I must say I wish the story behind this came with the sale! Haha.

At a first look they resembled the medieval Spanish gold!

I didn't save a photo but I did once learn the hard way that medieval Slavonian silver denars are no match for an office paper shredder!

In my opinion, this thread could really use a viewer discretion warning.

Well, that's 1800 years of history down the drain. regret-statue-outside-louvre2_1600.jpg

I still don’t get it. How exactly does a coin get shredded, especially a 4-figure one? I love the description of provenance “shredded thereafter”

Huh, I thought I remembered a faint scream, carried on the wind on that date. Now I know why!

That gives a whole new meaning to the term "bad day". Jeepers.

Can you imagine the immediate feeling after realizing you did this?

And mine can barely deal with paperclips. CNG missed the mark not disclosing the make/model of the shredder!

Destroyed in shredder. Otherwise, extremely fine

Wow... I believe the current owner of CNG occasionally posts here. Anyone remember his user name to see if we could get more to the story??

And maybe if the winner of this coin puts it back together they will get to be the next King of Rome. :hilarious:
