Yeah, that was the last season when Duncan found out Methos was Death of the 4 horsemen. I know it all. Man, now I want to binge watch. It's been a while, like over a decade, since I've seen.any episodes. Remember Roger Daltrey's recurring role as Hugh Fitzcaren aka "Fitz"... Ron Perlman got his start there too in a single episode as a Peace loving immortal that taught new immortals they don't need swords and peace was the way then he would kill them. Almost got Richie. Duncan put a stop to that. We really should move this to GD though if you like.
Well...I'm pretty sure this guy decided there can be only one when he had Geta killed in his mother's arms. Brutal. Caracalla, AD 198-217 AE31, 16g, 12h; Serdica. Obv.: AVT K M AVR SEVH ANTΩNEINOC Laureate head right. Rev.: OVΛΠIAC CEPΔIKHC; Apollo standing facing, head left, holding patera in right hand and palm-branch in left.
Good luck with that Aiden but you can keep tryin' lol... Hey, I found us at Summer Seminar on YouTube... You might not remember it though
There are plenty of higher end stuff as well search for Ancientjoe's, TIF's, and panzermans stuff (to name a few). You will be blown away!
The coin is clearly dated to the second consulship but shows Geta still as Caesar not Augustus so is from 208 AD and earlier than the Augustus coins posted here. To match this portrait, look for a Geta Caesar coin with reverse legend reading COS II.
Fantastic portrait @Cyrrhus , but as stated somewhere in this thread, clearly in the eastern style I do have two Geta tets, one from Laodicaea, the other from Antioch, that show very well style differences (i.e. eastern/roman(ish)) Geta, Tetradrachm minted in Laodicea, AD 208-209 KAICAP GETAC, Bare head of Geta right YTTA-TOC TO B, Eagle facing, head turned on the left, holding wreath in beak, star between legs 13,73 gr Ref : Prieur #1157_012 Geta, Tetradrachm minted in Antioch AD 208 AYT KAI GETAC . laureate head right DHMAPX EXVPA TO B, eagle standing facing on leg an thigh, head right, holding wreath in beak 13,40 gr Ref : Prieur #209_006 (same obverse die) Please, note the doted moustache on the second one (pic can be enlarged) Q
I would date the Antioch at least a year later since it records titles assumed first in 209 AD. AVT is IMP and the left side of the reverse is TRP in Greek. I don't see a certain way to tell 209 from 210 but the portrait looks early in the Augustus period rather than later. Has no one in the literature separated these? Consul dating becomes less useful when there were long periods between consulships so the 'upato B' helps little.
My dating of 208 is taken from Prieur, who wrote about the #209: "Geta wasn't elevated to the rank of Augustus until 209, so the issues without CEBACTOC might be dated to 208, while those with this legend should be from 209 onwards" Of course he might be wrong Q Edit : and Mc Alee dates it 208-212 (probably c. 208) at #718
Very nice, Cucumbor !! I also go this one: https://www.cointalk.com/threads/what-do-you-think.271992/#post-2297360
Geta and Caracalla's father left the empire to the two of them when he died. The brothers nearly split the empire then Caracalla set up a meeting to reconcile their differences with their mother. When Geta showed up Caracalla's men stabbed Geta to death, in his mother's arms, and Caracalla became the sole emperor. I took the thread title to mean there can be only one emperor.
Here's another provincial from Caracalla...I love this coin! Caracalla, AD 198-217 AE30, 14.9g, 7h; Thrace, Pautalia. Obv.: AVT K MAVP CEV ANTONEINOC, Laureate, draped and cuirassed bust right. Rev.: OVΛΠIAC ΠAVTAΛIAC, Asklepios standing front, looking left, leaning on serpent-entwined staff.
Luckily for Julia, she didn't show any emotions for Geta as he bled out in her arms. Had she done so, Caracala would have killed her too. I have no doubt of that. You have to give Caracala some credit, he knew how to get things done. Geta didn't have it in him. Which is why Ive always been fond of Caracala. I wouldn't have wanted to live under his rule, but it's fun to look back at his life from the relative safety of 1800 years in the future.
Yes I am addicted to coins, I admit...lets see what the cat brought in today? no not another Geta !! ahahahahah and some other goodies...whowwwwwww and that to start the week.. Geta, Caracalla Tyre and a Claudius & Nero from Cappadocia ( all tets).
