At first I thought it was SBS (Some basement grader), but I look on the back, and tada! NGC. Anyone know anything about this slab?
Presentation slab. Someone at the school paid NGC to make up a bunch of them to give away, probably to kids just starting the first grade. For a fee pretty much anyone can have giveaway presentation slabs made up.
In 1987 for my twenty-fifth high school reunion, I had PCI slab 1962 Proof nickels (year of our graduation) with a special label. In 2012, I had ICG slab AU 1962 Franklin half dollars for our reunion also with a custom label.
You and you're obsession with 4th party graders insider. I guess I would be shocked if you had a top 2 or even 3 do it though. How was it received
What do you think? The nickel slab got two guys into collecting. The next issue with the silver halves had classmates who could not make it to the reunion trying to get one. Lucky for me, there were only 58 in my class and several had died over the years. My 50th from college is this year but I'm not going to make it. Don't get me started on TPGS's.
Here is some history behind the school: http://www.edline.net/pages/Sarah_Starkweather_Elementary_/About_School/History I wonder why they didn't use a Pennsylvania State quarter? I wonder if the class was learning about the States and teachers were using these as a teaching tool; that would be pretty cool!
I should let her know about this but I'm hogging this thing and she's watching politics on TV. @Big Money If she were to actually exist, I'll bet she would have a few NGC graded ancients. This is from her.
