CoinCorgi, posted this above: "You're so edited. Lol" I doubt it has anything to do with my quiz and appears to be the ramblings of a jealous little child.

Now, I know that some collectors feel insecure about their knowledge, so they post nonsense like whatever was inappropriate and "edited" above. I feel very sorry about folks as this. They add nothing of importance to a discussion forum.

Nevertheless, many folks as this can be helped and educated so they become better collectors. In fact, I enjoy working with "hard cases," the more difficult and sassy the better. That's why I sent Coin Gorgi this PM:

You ARE VERY SPECIAL TO ME "Send me your answers in private here and I'll help you out."

As a long time teacher, I have found that some folks cannot be helped. While that disapoints me , I realize you cannot win every over. There truly are some "very bad seeds" in the world. Remember to pray for them.

I'll post my opinion on the op coin after others have.

 

So far 4 self-declared non-experts have posted (post #'s 4, 8, 11, 20), yet our self-declared Master Teacher has ignored them. Several self-declared experts have made such claims by declaring they will wait until Monday. Then there will apparently be a race to be the last self-declared-expert to post the correct answer (because how embarrassing it will be to be the first one to post the correct answer?).

This is how I see it. But please go ahead and genuflect all you want to this fool. It baffles me.

 

I could tell that from the beginning. That is why I offered you (and ONLY YOU) some private time taking all the time you needed to see what I posted and how to tell what each was on future coins. My offer still holds for you. You are special to me so PM me what you think.

Now, IMO, from several decades of bing a terrible teacher (according to two people out of several hundred - now three including you) when giving a quiz, for a class in a seminar it is not helpfull to tell a student with any answer if it is right or wrong AT FIRST. You ask others in the class what they think about the answer in an attempt to let the class have a discussion which usually results in them thinking the problem out together and TEACHING THEM SELVES.

I've already asked ALL of our knowledgeable numismatists to please not give the correct answer away. Now, any poster (including the experts who have been very patient) should feel free to ask anyone posting WHY they thought the mark was what they said it was. This is a discussion forum and I have posted an image to discuss.

Example: If someone posts that a mark is a lamination. You can ask why do you think that? If they reply "because ....." There is no need to say if you agree or not when you know it is not a lamination.

I cannot control the discussion. I did give my reason for ASKING the guys who know to let beginners like our hateful little friend to have time to actully add something useful to the discussion by taking a guess.

If I'm not told to bug off again, I will continue to post more images as quizzes or images that I tell you what you are looking at.

The reason I posted this image is that the cheek of this particular coin has just about everything! I wish it belonged to me. The coin is 100% original with a full, frosty white surface. There are just a few tiny hairlines and raised mint die polish (I turned the coin so they would not be visible) With regard to the three obvious characteristics I'm asking folks to ID, one is very common, and the other two are less common BUT RARLEY SEEN TOGETHER! That's what maks this common Morgan dollar so cool to a "coinhead."

I hope our little friend does not ruin my posts in the future with his Monkey Business.

The reason I posted that the expert posting last would be the real winner is because I hoped none of them would post at all with the correct answer.

Then, when I gave the answer and commented on all the guesses (right and wrong) from the beginners, experts like you could write that I was a "know-it-all!"

 

A "self-declared" know it all. Not sure anyone has ever corroborated anything you've ever said here. lol

The first is interesting. Guess I will go with lamination. Seems there would be a bit of mushrooming around the edges if something had punched into it there.
The other thing might be a damaged or imperfect planchet, nope, I don't think so.

 

I’ll make an interesting note about the first rectangular mark. See the couple evenly spaced lines across the mark. Bears consideration what caused that

This seems to be a theme lately, maybe folks around here made everyone an expert and we have nothing to talk about because it has all been heard before. I would like to add that the small rectangular defect seems to have what is called unstruck luster.
