I've been lurking on here, but I finally registered, and this is my first post. When in a grocery store, I always walk past the CoinStar machine, and check for the left behind rejected coins. I know that the rejects are either error, or old coins that the machine discards, and most people never look at the rejects, they leave them behind. I found this rejected Roosevelt Dime, that appears to have not been struck hard enough, weak strike. Denver Mint. 2010. What are your thoughts on this error dime?
I took this to a coin shop, and was told probably this was a janitor error. Janitor's play around with the presses, and make currency, but make many error coins too. I was told it's an oddly created weak strike.
Not even close. If a janitor gets near a machine, plays with the presses or makes currency they get fired.
Very, very, very few coin shop owners know anything about error & variety coins. It takes too much time to learn about them and study them which eats into their profit picture.
What a bunch of garbage I'm a janitor. I have the tools to mimic your coin. But that doesn't make it any kind of error
An error isn't made after the coin leaves the mint!! That coin shop owner should have admitted he had no idea what caused that! His GUESS was way off! I also vote for a dryer coin, but that certainly was not done during the minting process!
