Ovid says the "eyes" on the peacock's tail come from the many-eyed Argus who was supposed to guard Jove's lover Io (transformed into a cow when Juno came snooping) but who was lulled to sleep by Pan and subsequently killed. Juno pitied Argus and put his eyes on the peacock. Someday I'd like to get a Juno and peacock reverse.
