Washington Quarter 1958 error?

Ok I am starting to accept that this coin was chosen to become a ring but never made it to being 'spooned'. So would it be corrrect to assume that the first stage would be to file the edge to a smooth ringlike surface? This would make it a fraction smaller in diameter, which it is. And it might make the letters LIBERTY seem to be squashed into the top edge, which is does.

So my coin was probably meant to be a ring. It coming from Okinawa I would question any of you Marines if this was a common practice-probably yes I would imagine. Of course it didn't HAVE to have belonged to a Marine but the probability is high.

I was told that Okinawa ran US currency from post war to 1972 but I'm not certain on that part of history. If anyone is I'd be interested to hear. It certainly explains why I can find old dollars etc (pre 64 silver coins), some in better condition than others.

I'm finding it cheapest to buy dimes (roosevelt then mercury) Washington quarters then half dollars Franklin liberty bells and then Kennedy 64's. Peace and Morgans are double spot at least, so... beauties that they are I'm trying to discipline myself...no I will NOT buy that 1928 for xxxdollars and TBH the high relief 1921 was a bit of an anticlimax. They are also few and far between.

I actually think US silver eagle is a peach of a coin. All frosty like a winter morning when I was a kid...ah! I am trying to stay away from numismatics but feel like I am being pulled in slowly. Fortunately I can't afford it too much and if I could I couldn't bear to part with them (like my Teresa's-isn't she a beauty?). So I keep on buying 'baldy' Franks (no offence-great man and all that) and dimes. Bit boring but there you go.

I will try and post a proper sized picture after following all the instructions just in case it ISNT a spooned coin and just so you can all see it. Anyway great forum here and much appreciated to everyone who welcomed/commented for me. Think I'll hang around and check your boards. I'm really a beginner at all this so maybe I can learn a few things from you statesmen.
