As I mentioned in the "2007s" thread, I was at the Minneapolis / St. Paul airport again last Friday (30th) and during my wait time, I tried out two arbitrarily selected change machines. These machines are located with groups of vending machines that take dollar coins. I put a five dollar bill in each of two different machines, which yielded the following: - Two rather circulated and tarnished 2000-P Sacagawea dollars. I spent those in the vending machine. - One pretty decent looking 2001-D Sac, which I kept. - Seven "uncirculated" Washington Dollars. All of them had pronounced "bag marks" including a few very noticable scratches in the fields. I doubt that any of these would grade very high into the MS-60s... well, with the exception of using one particular grader :goofer: I did want to examine these to see if there were any "lack of edge lettering" mistakes, and sorry to say, I have not hit the jackpot. But I did notice that on some of the coins, the edge lettering is facing a different direction. I was very happy to see the discussion of this here on CoinTalk which saved me from making myself looking quite silly. The final tally was as follows: Five Philadelphia mint marks (2007 P) oriented as follows: - Three with the top of the edge lettering "pointing to" the Washington portrait, or obverse - Two the with top of the edge lettering pointing to the Statue of Liberty, or reverse. (Hey, instead of "right side up" and "upside down," how about "President Orientation" and "Liberty Orientation"? Neither is pejorative or suggests an error condition.) Two Denver mint marks (2007 D), one of each orientation. I will keep the two D's and the best looking of each of the P's for Thalia Elizabeth's collection, and give away or spend the other three coins. Overall, I continue to be underwhelmed by the design, and, frankly, the concept; but the reverse with the Statue of Liberty is growing on me. I have two more trips to Minneapolis already scheduled this year and maybe I'll see some 07 Sacs or even the Adams dollar then.
