Was the "Ike" dollar created just to have a coin to honor the deceased ?

In fact it does (kind of); the Delaware river connects it to Delaware Bay, which connects to the Atlantic. Also, the Susquehanna river connects it to Chesapeake Bay, which connects to the Atlantic. So it's possible to get from the Atlantic Ocean to inside Pennsylvania's borders without having to touch dry land, which in my book counts even if it doesn't have a beach touching the Atlantic Ocean directly. I still say that counts as "bordering." And if a state touches a body of water that touches the Atlantic, I still say that counts too. There's a continuous flow of water to/from the Atlantic ocean to a body of water within the state. So I stand by my original statement. (Also, Philadelphia does in fact have a port that connects to the Atlantic Ocean.)

By that logic my town here in east central Indiana is on the Gulf of Mexico. The river here behind my place eventually meets up with the Walbash, the Ohio, the Mississippi, and finally the Gulf.

So I would agree and say that Pennsylvania was not on the the east coast. (I didn't think about PA but I wasn't sure about NH. It does have coastline though. Vermont isn't on the coast either but it wasn't one of the thirteen.)

And Senator Carter Glass on the Lynchburg VA half of 1936, and Senator Joseph T Robinson on the redesigned Arkansas Centenial half of 1936.

A rescue mission after almost a year, yeah, nice job. That hostage situation was country supported and should not have been tolerated for one minute.

NO SPECIAL COIN OR BILL FOR CARTER.

Ok, the thread is tottering on the line of political comment beyond the numismatic value. So steer away from this direction.

Of course they make their own coins, or at least they have done so in the past. The old "chips" used to be interchangeable with US coin in their machines. If there were any vending machines that took Ikes then the chips would have worked in most.

They've cleaned up their acts a lot in more modern times.

People don't ask for dimes either but every bank in the country passes them out. It's the same for all the coins we use, and all the coins the banks don't pass out are not used.

People get used to anything very very rapidly.Edited ~political , and I warned above. we can reach for a dollar coin instead of a filthy germ infested rag note. But we'll never reach for the coin until the banks FIRST issue them.
