Mr. Brooklyn ... You are awesome! Maybe it's not perfect authentication, but it sure makes me want to own these babies a lot more than I did yesterday :) lol

The owner of the coins just emailed me and said he'd take a picture of the area and write the letter with his pitch. This isn't PERFECT authentication.... but it does help! I am in business! Now I actually want the coins! hehehe His main business is metal detecting! lol

An old mine to be sure, but not the oldest by a long shot ;) The oldest known "European" mine is the Loudville Lead & Silver Mine (Loudville, MA) where mining began in 1680.

Indians on the other hand mined flint waaaaaaaaaaay up in Maine on Moosehead Lake for thousands of years before anyone else settled North America.

Just the same, the coins look good for what they are and the history is definitely a plus. Good Luck!

YEA!!! I'm off the hook! I think I am going to pool my resources and try to chase a 1909 S VDB ... I want a colonial coin and a 3 legger Buffalo nickel, but I'm going to have to get an extra job to afford this stuff! LOL

I think the 1909 S VDB is the best thing to track down for now and let this Colonial stuff go. I will try to SLOW way down and make sure I bid properly this time! :loud:

Now that your off the hook, let me ask you a question you can answer to yourself..O.k. here it is...have you ever heard of "trick" photography?

Now think back and remember how you thought a photo would help solve the dilema.

Now that you're off the hook and it seems that you arn't going to bid further, I think I may just go after them.

Some nice and hard to find coins....I would suggest looking for the 3 leg Buff first...they are harder to find.
I've seen many S VDB's...but less than 10 3 leg Buff's....I know that maybe someone else will say it the other way...but it seems to me that the Buff it harder therefor it would be the better one to get first.

Go ahead and bid away on the Colonial Coins gentlemen! I'm off the hook and I think I'm going to chase other coins. :) I thank you guys for your help though and although I wouldn't have been totally upset if I had gotten those coins. I'm just not ready yet. Like I've mentioned in other posts, an 09 S-VDB and a 3 Legger are kind of what I'm after. Time to save my money and get an extra part time job for numismatics only! hehe
