If you haven't already seen. It's a bit dated but still valid for newbies. Interesting reality check.

scammers relie upon "hope" and "desire" of unsuspecting people who think "they can be the lucky one".

Unfortunately, the roll holders are not going to let an expensive coin get past them ... they're all searched.

This is rare today. In fact it is so rare that if you offer a coin for a good price, most people feel that it is to good to be true and move right past it.
It's sad that places like etsy are becoming the norm.

It would be so cool to buy a roll of Morgans that was put together 100 years ago. I have way too much skepticism to believe anything for sale is an "original, unsearched" roll.

I had the pleasure of inventorying an older gentleman's collection that had passed in my church last year for his son who knew nothing about coins. I opened his safe and my jaw dropped. Stacks upon stacks upon stacks of ancient rolls, boxes and cans of everything imaginable. I can't remember how many but there were truly thousands of walking halves. The jars of wheat cents were so heavy that it took a hand truck to move them.... Whole point being, there are still wondrous hoards of coins to be found out there. But they sure aren't on Ebay.

Oh, so they decided to put them on Etsy instead? ;)

My first or second post on this site was about where I could buy good Morgan rolls. People put me straight right away and saved me thousands! Go CT;)

So where is the scam? The seller is offering exactly what he says he is...a roll of Morgan dollars with an 1880 on one end and a Carson City on the other. Nowhere does he claim that it is a roll of 1880CCs. In fact, he states just the opposite--that it is a mixed date/mint roll.

When did they start using paper rolls for silver dollars?

He sure is, the problem is that at 60 dollars a coin it is still a gamble. Says they are BU, except that the guy has already cherry picked the roll.
Now what if I told you that he wanted $2200 a roll just a month ago.
    $110 a coin.
This is nothing different than seeding the ender of small cents rolls with key dates or wheat enders and trying to get 100x face for each roll.

And when did they start using shot gun type rolls? The typical end of roll toning on Morgan Dollars is the folded type rolls.

Does anyone think the end coins of a 100 year old roll will remain blast white?

Don't care if he wanted $2200 a coin. They are his coins. He is entitled to ask for whatever he wishes. If some buyer is in such a hurry to score (RIPOFF) him that they don't bother to actually read what they are buying then that is on the buyer, not the seller.
