Quality over Quantity for example I'm going to soon buy a 1909-S VDB, Graded MS-64 By Pcgs instead of buying all sorts of junk coins that will take up time and space that I would likely resale in the near future.

    A wise decision.

    Interesting proposition.

Or, use your local library for all the reference materials you need rather than purchasing expensive books and spend your hard-earned money directly on your collection instead. Just sayin'.

Grade matters more if you're always going to have re-selling in mind; otherwise just collect the coins you like and don't concern yourself so much with slabbed coins...buying those just fattens the third-party grading services' bank accounts.

Absolutely. If you want to build a nest egg - and believe me, as a retired senior citizen I know this to be all too true - put your money into a 401K. Coin collecting is a fun hobby but it won't pay your bills when your best earning days are over and you're stuck with relying on that monthly pittance which should be called Social Insecurity.

Keep in mind the old saying that there is no better way to learn than by doing.

I was pretty much with you right up until the "pass[ing] them on" part; I am completely aware of the fact that this is a completely personal issue, but I have to admit I don't really "get" it. I never have (at 70) ever inherited anything nor do I stand to in whatever time I have left, and that's fine with me. When I look at my immediate family and other relatives who have inherited various and assorted amounts of money and other items I just see them having more arguments about who got or gets what than it's worth I absolutely do not envy them; it seems like it all just leads to more grief and contentiousness than it could ever be worth. Just sayin'.

    And it certainly can't hurt.

Gosh, I really dislike that expression "raw". How about "natural state" instead, since slabbed coins all look to me like versions of Han Solo frozen for eternity...and you can't even TOUCH (yes, with gloves, of course) them, which is one of the absolutely greatest pleasures about having coins in your possession. Just IMHO.

My local library does not carry books and I just recently got $80 dollars in books for like $5 dollars used on eBay
