well, the discussions seem to go the way of what the forum members collect..and post when we get new coins. there are some coins types that some of us just aren't into at all, and the rest of us just dabble in... here are a couple areas i don't see hit much here. chinese coins.. medieval coins in general, especially "high" medieval western coins and islamic coins. ANs recent "penny" kind of reignited my interest in these. i have another islamic coin of the period incoming. of course, with late medieval i'm not sure where this forum quits and the world coin forum takes over.
You're right Chris. We do tend to post and enter discussions in areas we collect or are interested. There are many areas of collecting in which I have no interest and thus do not participate in the discussions. These that you mention are two of these. Legitimate collectibles for sure, but I can't collect everything so I choose to collect only Roman and Greek (expensive enough by themselves). I do follow along (lurk) sometimes to see if something might catch my interest, but so far only the Greek coins caught my interest enough to collect a few.
I also go for that type as well..including some that fall more within 'curios' and 'artifacts'....showing worldwide ancient coinage and the early evolution of it all---as the months roll by, I will doubtlessly acquire a few that you posted. I find all areas of numismatics interesting and desirable and even purchased some proto-money to tie it all together....
That coin is amazingly cool, Norm ... => it is very cool and very similar to randygeki's Pontos example (man, these babies have landed on the pinnacle of my want list) congrats, my awesome Good Friday coin-dudes!! (oh, I wore my holiday avatra for this holiday occasion) Yah => kinda similar to the awesome Pontos Amisos and Sinope versions of the Medusa Coins, these babies are uber fricken cool!! (thanks for taunting me with their awesomeness and showing me some total winners!!) Cheers
It just occurred to me another area that seems under-represented and one that i seem to have unintentionally fallen into---Empress portrait/coins. Few would argue the power they wielded, especially the 'Julia's' of the Severan dynasty, not to mention Livia or Theodora. And they seem remarkably affordable compared to past years in high grade. A few that I couldn't resist at auction due to their appeal and PRICE :
Well well, looks like someone is trying to muscle their way into my area of ancients. No one touches my ladies! Mat= Mikey Zee =
