You're ignoring the large majority of transactions - not unmet reserves or BIN's - which are quite a bit less than that.

I actually said "would you give $450.00" she replied without hesitation YES!
I only wanted 1 set but when it took 1.5 hrs to get through on the phone I took all 5 sets, shipped individually thinking
I could sell 4 sets to pay for my 1 set, so these prices are ok for me. Just don't want to pay a fee if somsthing happens
    and I don't recieve them.

I was only referring to the link that was posted which is currently at $1025 but you are right most are in the $5-800 range.

Roger that TC. So I order 5 sets from the mint with the expectation of selling them to Ampex. I contact them and commit to selling the sets to them. With all of the hype and hoopla though, I've forgotten to update my credit card info with the mint website. A week later I check my account to see when the sets will be shipped and discover that the order has been cancelled. I call the mint and they tell me the bad news regarding the credit card. So when I contact Ampex and tell them I can't fulfill my commitment with them, they're going to charge me a cancellation fee? If this is true it's totally and utterly ridiculous.

It sounds as if that is their way of trying to make it more likely that sellers will follow through with the transactions, even if the value of the sets increases. The downside is that it will turn off some potential sellers, such as yourself.

Weird, never heard of a cancellation fee on a sale. I suppose its fine whatever two parties agree to, I just hope everyone is aware of it if they are planning on selling to them.

Myself, I am simply waiting until I have them in hand. Safer all around that way.

I am as well. It's hard with all the pre-sales going crazy to sit and wait, but I don't feel right listing and selling something I don't personally have in my possession

I was just posing a possible "what if" Mark. I think it would be impossible for me to receive a box of five sets and then. without peeking, send them off to another person/dealer. If I do sell sets it would be on an individual basis.......:)

I never could quite understand the people on ebay. Sets being bid up to $1500 while others have buy-it-now listings for less than $900. Some less than $800

And that next one looks to be north of $1400 too. >shocking<

What I especially don't get is how BIN for the same thing is just sitting there at $725 while the bidding frenzy ensues.

Today might just be the honorary 'day of the flippers'.

made me wonder if someone had a friend bid it up to raise the value of the set for later sell.. on another note did they pull a lot of the sells again?

We need a bidding gallery of sorts from which to inject some sanity in this type of 'slaughter' fest.

"Hey, you there...did you know this same item is selling for less than half your current *losing* bid?"

    :p

Looks like at least one of the bidders was the same for both auction (didn't win the first) and I think people have ended their own auctions because of the price increase.
Looks like m**e got one for $1500

Could be shill bidding too. I know that happens a lot on ebay.

m**e will almost certainly regret that. Of course, it might be the Saudi prince or a member of his extended family, in which case it was a bargain.

well it looks like the heavy hitters left the building. One just ended for $799.

Betcha there's going to be a lot bid retractions and failures to pay (buyers bidding on multiple auctions or having buyer's remorse when he discovers he paid too much), not to mention late deliveries and failures to deliver. A seller could easily put up 10 auctions for the same set of coins, and only deliver to the highest bidder. A new seller, or old seller with a new handle, couldn't care less about a resulting bad reputation. I predict this will become a classic big mess.

It very well could sir. This is why I have always thought it was in Ebay's best interest to forbid pre-order auctions and only allow auctions of items in hand. I very well could see shenanigans like you describe taking place. This is why I simply will wait until I have mine in hand before deciding what to do with them.
