    Yes, it is the monogram for Adolph Weinman, the guy who designed the coin. It is actually an A superimposed over a W. All Walkers should have the monogram.

    Weinman also designed the Mercury dime. You can see his monogram in the obverse fields of the Mercury dime.

    It stands for Adolph Weinman, the sculptor who designed the Walking Liberty half.

    Nice post. There is one variety of the 1941 proof missing the AW. Believe it was polished off the die.
