Over the years I've occasionally stepped out on my Beautiful Busties and had dalliances with other half dollar types. About a year ago I realized that I was close to finishing a short set of Walkers (needed 7 coins) Well, I broke down and finished them off.
Humbly I say, after this series ended, we lost our superior edge in coinage design forever to the Franklin & Kennedy half dollars. Such mediocre designs in our current coinage line-up.
Thanks for showing your set. I recently started on my Walking Liberty Half Dollars. I have enjoyed my collection. I like to buy graded Walking Liberty Half Dollars. I have some that are in great condition that are not graded, but if the price is right, it will join our family of Walking Liberty Half Dollars. I only collect coins that are graded MS63 or better, most of the time by NGC. I have several coins from 1934 to 1947. Some graded. I bought most of mine from a friend of mine, none graded, but all in great shape. I have about 90 + Walking Liberties. Any ideas of the best way to store them? About half are about 50. I seem to hop from one type to another. Anyway, I like them all.
Congratulations! I think that the Walking Liberty Half Dollar is one of the great designs in the U.S. coin series. I would never dream of trying to do the entire set because of the expense, but the short set has run through my mind. I have the World War II cent, War Nickel and the Mercury Dime short sets. I really don't like the Washington Quarter at all, but "the Walker" has attracted me. I do have all of the Walkers in Proof.
