Just watching FOX news. Wal-mart CEO said "Serious inflation" will hit by June. Basically warning the consumer that their prices will jump a substantial amount. They were refering to food and clothing. When the CEO of Wal-mart says something like that, I will definately listen....... another sign that PM's should continue to rise....... as if we didnt know that anyway......

I dont know if i would worry to much, because they still have to be lower then the chain grocery
Stores if not there would be no reason to shop there! We have one right across the street and
A Kroger,s on the corner so prices are easily comparable that,s competition for you !

If Wal-mart is forced to raise its prices though, you can bet everyone else has to too.

Since just about everything that Walmart sells comes from outside the USA...are you surprised by this announcement? Buying cheap, and not American, is exactly the same trap as selling US dept to China - it's only a matter of time before it'll catch up with all of us.

Well, I just read a good article on how consumer groups comparison shop between different stores. For the first time, two independent groups found Target cheaper than Walmart on separate trips, not even counting the 5% discount you get using a Target card. I am not affiliated with Target, just pointing out that something is going on with Walmart. They are not having success overseas, but their stock pricing has built in substantial profit growth. If they cannot hit those targets, their stock will go down, killing the employees stock options. I think Walmart is intentionally raising prices, and have been, more than their costs to "juice" their profits. They used to be substantially lower than Target, but are now more expensive. I think this is showing us that they are not simply reacting to price increases.

Just thought that would add flavor to this discussion, since if I were raising prices in my store I would be looking for something else to blame besides my own greed.

There is a reason Dollar Tree and other dollar stores are growing quickly and Walmart stagnating in this country right now. I bet Sam Walton wouldn't be running his business this way, he would have told Wall Street where to stick their valuations, and keep his store more competitive, since that is their reason for growth to begin with.

Your first mistake was watching Fox news. Your second was believing anything that a talking head on there had to say.

How many ounces have you bought from Goldline?

Really? I don't watch a lot of TV news, but the actual news section of Fox seems more "newsworthy" and less opinion than MSNBC or CNN. For radio, I find Fox much less biased than CNN or NPR, (try to find ways to punch the radio half the time if I tune in to NPR they are so slanted).

Of course, listening to any commentator, columnist, or the like is not news, just opinion programs made for entertainment. I would never listen to Glen Beck as a source of news, more entertainment.

    Its more like 'Faux news'.

Ps: I have never stepped foot in a walmart.

I imagine that if someone didn't know you, they might mistake you for a pompous sot.

Why do you have to turn the subject to FOX for? Hell, I posted a link from another source as well. Keep your biased hate off this thread please!

Lol, "pompous sot". Love having some British colloquialisms on this board.

Silvercedar is correct about his thread. The news about Walmart was on many business feeds, so let's drop the
comments on the source and stick to Walmart/inflation statement.
I agree there is much to this. Not that there isn't possible inflation coming, but I think WM might be "pre announcing" upcoming bad quarters. IMO.

Touchè. I have very little tolerance for irrelevant name dropping. If the source of the news was not important, why post it in the thread?

IE: "I was driving in my BMW 735i the other day, when I heard the CEO of Walmart talking about how he thinks inflation is coming soon."

Would it be out of place to discuss the BMW 735i in the OP?

The source is important, thats why I posted a 2nd source in my 2nd post, plus as the MOD said, its on numerous sites, so the source isn't the issue HERE......
