I recently picked up a medal dated 1931 with a legend "W.A.S." I bought the medal for the equestrian design on the obverse, but I'm quite curious about what the abbreviation might mean. A google search for W.A.S. did not pull up anything seemingly relevant. Perhaps an Austrian sports league or something similar? The only other abbreviation I came up with is the "War of the Austrian Secession". Was there any related anniversary in 1931?
Without pics, etc. My first guess would be the "Worker's Olympiad" which in 1931 was in Vienna. This article mentions an organization named "Workers and Amateurs in Sports". But quite a few of my wild guesses have turned out to be wrong ... Christian
