Just came across this little ae4 type with a reverse I had never seen before.

    VRTVS ROMANORVM.jpg
Reverse is VRTVS ROMANORVM, Emperor standing right holding standard and resting left hand on shield; T(R) in exergue. Problem is that RIC X shows the reverse as being for both Theodosius II or Valentinian III. The one reference pic plate which is barely visible is clearly Theo II.

Thought I could look at other coins to determine the Emperor by the bust style and can't find a single example anywhere. Not one. Zero. Oh well, still a very interesting type for late Roman collectors like myself.

    TIF Always learning.

How sure are you of the reverse legend? I think see VRTVSAV...

This era is not at all my forte, but on Tesorillo's site it looks like:

Constantinus II or Constantius II, VIRTVS AVGUSTI

Edited: oops, I guess not since the obverse is ...SPFAVG

For sure, great coin! From your pile of backlog coins needing IDs I presume?

    Hey TIF!

It is absolutely VRTVS, with the upright T of the mintmark next to the initial V. Alas, if it only had an obverse inscription.

Yep. Even I was surprised finding it.
