Probably most of us have collected an VRBS ROMA type. Here's my best example, which you've all seen before... This morning I won a scarcer variety, from the Nicomedia mint, with three pellets between the stars. One can find a number of different control marks between the stars: wreaths, fronds, indeterminate symbols, etc. But I've seen very few with the pellets, so I was quite pleased to acquire this example at only half my maximum bid (dealer's pic)... The scarcest varieties are the coins that mule the Roma obverse with either a VOT or GLORIA EXERCITVS reverse. The first is a dealer's pic, the second one has arrived a few weeks ago... This year I hope to expand this collection to include a few more varieties. Let's see yours!
Mine. A series I have no desire to collect as a set. This was one of my first buys too. RBS ROMA (335 - 336 A.D.) Æ4 O: VRBS ROMA, Helmeted head of Roma Left. R: Romulus and Remus suckling from she-wolf S * * R above. SMAL(Delta) in exergue. Alexandria Mint 15mm 1.5g RIC VIII Alexandria 8, rated C2
JA => great new sucklin' wolf coin ... I'm lovin' the three pellets!! (very cool) Ummm, here is my example: Constantine I Commemorative Date: 332-333 AD Trier mint Diameter: 17.1 mm Weight: 2.0 grams Obverse: VRBS ROMA - Helmeted and mantled bust of Roma Reverse: She-wolf suckling Remus and Romulus, TR [dot] S (Trier mint) References: RIC 542 Characteristics: Well centered, nice style and grade
i dig that tripple pellet mark, that's not something i remember seeing on one of those. the wolf looks almost rat-like on that one.
Nice! I don't know if I have a pic of mine. Never got a new shot since they are not the best looking.
Nice coins. I need to get a decent Roma city commemorative coin. Mine is rather low grade, also looks better in hand than in the photo.
Nice coins all in all! I am very impressed. Contrary to the prologue, I never wanted one of my own. My interest was in Greek, not Roman. Rome is OK. I have a couple. It is nice to know about the Urbs coins and to see them.
Here is my only VRBS ROMA, the she-wolf type: (This is an old photo. I've since taken it out but haven't reshot it)
