Fake. None in this style reported, obvious seam all around rim, casting sprue freshly filed off, metal doesn't feel or look right, surface is pitted. Came from Vietnam.
What I believe are fake dog tags and war era lighters all made to look like they were found in the jungles. All the little shops had the same type of stuff.
I see a 1885 trade dollar there too. A 1.5-2million dollar coin if real too bad all 5 are accounted for
The fake coins probably come from the usual source. I do like the "Indian Head" silver dollar (second picture, lower right). It shows some imagination. A couple of years ago there were news reports about US soldiers in Afghanistan buying American silver dollars in the bazaars which turned out to be Chinese fakes. https://www.cointalk.com/threads/1873-cc-trade-dollar-bought-from-afghanistan.128475
We will be hitting the morning market here in Vientiane, Laos today and I will be looking for some fake coins. Couple years ago I got 2 real good fake Trade Dollars at a temple where they had a row of booths set up selling souvenirs so I am interested to see what else I can find. It's interesting to have a few examples in my collection. I will post later what I find.
What I found was all the same stuff I found a couple years ago when I was here. Same date Trade Dollars that I already have.
Iam in Afghanistan right now and bought two albums of these coins. They are really good fakes except the wieght is off. Also it's hard to believe 40 1877 seated dollars would end up in Afghanistan. I picked them up for 40 cents a piece and will make s coin ring out of them. Should be a fun project.
