I sold my Guinea a year or so ago so now have no gold in my collection. I think when I decide to reinstate the gold standard this is what I'll buy a fantastic coin :)

Another of my favour wit colonial Vicks is the east Africa protectorate 1 Pice. Obviously the Indian pice is a strange currency for the area but it followed on from the IBEA Mombasa coinage. It's a coin I need to upgrade, although I will also keep it as its struck from a deteriorated die judging by the lettering and cracks :) [IMG]

Thanks. I agree the Mohur is a much more attractive coin and conjures up images of the EIC and Raj in ones mind but the 1841 is extremely hard to find. Much more rare than the Mohur.

I wish you every luck in your search. It seems 1841 is a key date for many Victoria coins. My Mohur is AU53 although it looks nicer....or maybe I just think so coz its mine :).

I had to pay more than 3 times its price for the sovereign which is only an XF40.

I am watching this one out of curiosity......wonder what the final price will be. I would guess around 2200-2400. Not a bad price to get for a damaged, repaired coin.

This high-relief bust of Victoria by Pistrucci (BHM #1802) differs only slightly from the official coronaton medal but is much larger at 86mm.

Right now I cannot justify spending over a grand on a coin. That'll be in the future. The wife wants kids soon too which will further dent my coin buying credentials, which is why I'm going nuts now haha !

The neck on that token makes her look like ET but the portrait is beautiful. I hope the portrait is more accurate.
