Graded by ICG as a VG-8 AR Denarius. It's a Roman Vespasian from AD 69-79. It does show it's wear but then again, it's silver.

Worn denarii are nice, this is no exception. Does anyone know the relative rarity of this coin? I stick to bronze usually ;)

From the portrait style and COS IIII reverse I think it's actually Titus as Caesar under his father Vespasian.

It's a fairly common variant of the Pax type.

    Correct.

Is this RIC 783[vesp] from WildWinds? It looks like it, but WildWinds says this coin is from 75 AD, while ICG says it's 69-79 AD

WildWinds may have had it in the past but that's not where I came into contact with this coin.

First century silver was relatively high grade and, therefore, soft. Coins are common with wear, cuts and/or scratches. Bronzes of the period in equal condition can be more expensive probably because there are more people who will tolerate a worn sestertius than a worn denarius. Big dealers generally avoid handling coins in this price range but shopping smaller dealers might provide you what you want. Just be careful not to pay a VF price for a VG coin. Below are low end Flavians with assorted faults that limit their appeal to condition oriented shoppers. You?

It's worn and I normally wouldn't have bought it but the price was low enough so now it's mine. :)

BTW, your coin is RIC 783, struck under Vespasian in 75 AD.

Here is the seated VICTORY in Quinarius version.

    One of my favorite "looks"...

Sorry if I was unclear. I meant it looks like the RIC 783 type, not the exact coin.

I LOVE that statement! I've bought more coins with that logic, and have never regretted it.
