Since I have more time on my hands with this virus crisis going on. I have more time to troll through eBay, looking for appetizers to take a bite of and the coin below just happened to be ripe for the taking. $20 total, I was able to get this Vespasian Didrachm. Although it has much wear & some other blemishes, I was more than happy to add it to my collection & I didn't own a Flavian didrachm of any sort. For less than 2 packages of Toilet Paper, I think this was a pretty nice snack. Also to note the "NIKH" is visible in-hand. Vespasian (69 - 79 A.D.) Great! My only Vespasian is barely recognizeable and yours has a good portrait AND a Nike/Victory (My favorite reverse). Well done!
Nice coin @Mat. I'll share this Alexandrian tet of Nike as well. Apparently you haven't been doing your TP shopping in @Aethelred's coin shop. PS- @$20, I'd have been all over that. (*The coin, not the TP.)
Congrats, @Mat ! I believe you just valued the new TP Currency also. I have always liked the DiDrachm denomination, size, and feel. Seems a "right" everyday coin for transactions... just a cool one. Yours looks as though it has a windswept look! Windy day for Vespasian and even Victory!
Nice pickup Mat! I love these types, here's my RPC 1647. I don't know if you can tell for sure if your example is 1647 or 1648. I believe the only difference is a line in exergue under Nike's feet. Even in my example, the feet are weakly struck and worn. 1648 is the rarer type.
Nice pickup @Mat. For all of the crabbing about eBay in general, when you find a really cool piece like Mat's for $20 it keeps the hope and searching alive. Really nice coins of Vespasian from everyone else as well. I only have one drachm from Vespasian...no surprise that it is ex @Mat lol.
