Love it. Simple but lovely reverse. Here is one of mine with a small(ish) portrait:

Had one of that type, but unloaded it in a good trade. A nice addition.

My two cows are Vespasian but my favorite bovine is my Titus bull (ex Mabbott collection).

Ooow JA, that's nice!! ... another total sweetie (oh, and it even has a bull ... chicky dinna)

Hmmm ... yah sadly, my poor ol' lonely Vespasian example is becoming a bit of a poster-child for "Buy More Coins!!"

... oh well, put your hands together, for here it is again ...

Nice example of a 'small head' portrait on that one John.

Wow @John Anthony , I really like that bull!

@dougsmit On your second denarius, is that a Brahman bull? Those are out of India... Wouldn't they be an extra rare breed for Rome during that time? (Full brisket and prominent shoulder hump...)

Good question! A zebu? I've seen them on provincial issues, but not imperial.

Brahmans are a Zebu breed. Bred for meat, and becoming more popular in the Americas. I raised Black Angus growing up, but had friends with Brahmans. Relatively docile, great meat, full briskets (favorites for the deli!). Recently, saw a lot of them in Costa Rica too...

That denarius is an Asian mint so the varieties of animals may have been different.

Notice the coin has a small o mintmark under the bust. I bought it long ago in a Stacks sale where it was listed as ex Mabbott. I know nothing more about it but have noted other coins of interest from his collection disbursed in 1969. It seems he was attracted to unusual coins more than just high grades ones.
