It was made that way. Please, don't make a foolish mistake to believe it's an error because it's definitely not. I had one of those and sold it on ebay and I bought it at a coin shop. Look on ebay for a couple of weeks and I bet you see one. It was probably done with a dremel tool.

I hope this creates a spark of interest in collecting for you. If anything, it'll make you look at coins a little more closely and who knows, you just might find a valuable error. Many new members have found rarities in their pocket change and made them lifetime collectors.

Good luck and welcome to Coin Talk!

Yes, I've seen one just like it. No I did not sell it; I still have it. Enjoy.

This is obviously damaged and not a mint error as everyone else has correctly told you. If you still don't believe everyone send it to ANACS and have their experts look at it. They will happily charge you $19 grading fee plus $19 return shipping (assuming you don't set the value at $1,000,000) to tell you the same thing.

You missed his post, #36, where he agrees we were right and that it is a altered piece.

Can someone send me a private message so I could email them pics of a 1988 P Brushed Finish dime I found in my money jar, that has no designer initials below the bust, I'm assuming its worth something but Idk what, I would post photos, but have no way to do so seeing I'm on my evo 4g lte cellphone.

The dime in question is the one to the left.

Not an expert at all here...but my guess is it looks like it might be a grease filled die. Better pics are needed. Pics need to be head-on and close-up.

No problem, but I don't think its a greese filled die. It has a texture of a cameo bust, but the whole coin has the same texture, and there is no "JS" initials under Roosevelt's bust. Is that a rare mistake in minting a dime?

Ok, based on research talking to a employee of pcgs, its believed to be a 1988 P minted satin finish dime, but its also slightly broadstruck, and the missing "js" initials have stmped even the people at pcgs., so any help would be great. :(

    Andrew,
you should start a new thread instead of using someone elses. You will get more responses that way.
