I’m always fascinated to find proof coins in circulation. But here is another one I found today. A 2014S Franklin D Roosevelt small dollar.
It is true rare to see, but the mint has hundreds of millions in vaults at the mint. Another problem I have also read many of these are in rental vaults that we are paying for this storage. It costs too much it stated to melt down. Maybe in another 80 years the mint will offer these in an auction, who knows.
I have a bunch of them. I use them as tips at the golf course. They are not worth any more than a dollar.
Most of them did not. They were generally Senior HS and early college girls working the snack areas. Some of them got excited learning about them.
Happy to see FDR's glasses held up better than the rest of the coin. I have five* I found in circulation. As an odd side-effect of collecting the annual silver proof sets, I unintentionally ended up with a complete set of them except for the six reverse proof issues including the 2020 George Bush coin. [edit]: Madison, Van Buren, Tyler, Polk, and Taylor
Or maybe when they finally ditch the one-cent coin they'll put those into circulation. Of course, by that time, their purchasing power will likely be about the same as today's cent.
Who the heck is against getting rid of the cent. What Gov't in their right mind would spend 3.5 cents to produce one cent.
