    bsting Never enough coins.lol

I know if I bought a metal detector and found 8 cents I would have to track the value of my finds so I knew when the detector paid for itself.lol

Oh Shrews..... In your detecting career you will unearth enough of those to start your own hardware store!

Well done - save up your modern clad/copper/zincoln coin finds for fresh batteries - your hobby will be self-supporting ;)

In honor of your new hobby, here is a song by Whit Hill & The Postcards, the only metal detectorist rock band I know of :)

    And another:

This metal detector is very neat because I was out for the first time for not even a minute and found that nickel and Penny. Just walked out the house turned it on. the first beep I dug it got the nickel. Right next to it beeped again found the penny. Very cool though it actually works great.

As others noted, pin pointer is key! Even with it, there are times where I spend several minutes trying to get an item to find that there's multiple. I can't imagine metal detecting without one.

Not too sure on the shovel you have, but a digging knife is great for creating a plug and way sturdier than say a trowel. Plus it looks awesome and can defend against zombies better should the need ever arise.

Agreed - the A.M. Leonard hori hori (dig dig in Japanese) gardening knife is a sturdy digging tool with all the bells and whistles, including a stout leather belt sheath - big enough to dig targets and frighten away zombies  - in case law enforcement asks, it's a digging tool, not a weapon ;) - for $25, it's a real deal !
