C NORBANUS ROMAN REPUBLIC; GENS NORBANAAR Denarius OBVERSE: C• NORBANVS, head of Venus right, wearing stephane, earring, and necklace; XXXV behind REVERSE: caduceus, fasces, and grain ear. Rome 83 BC
Wow, Roman Collector => you seem to have an amazing number of Venus examples ... do you purposely hunt these sweet Venus types?
Beautiful coins all Julius Caesar Denarius (fouree') . 46-45 BC, Spanish mint. Diademed head of Venus right, Cupid on her shoulder / CAESAR below Gallia & Gaulish captive seated beneath trophy of Gallic arms.
It's interesting that this fouree has a hole. It makes me wonder if it was created not as an attempt to defraud anyone but specifically to use in jewelry.
I have to note that Empress Galeria was the only Roman ruler who engraved Venus on all of her coins. Curious indeed. She would have rather chosen Cupid if she were so interested in a divine symbol of Love. Anyway that's her Affair. Here's a coin of hers showing the Roman goddess of love on reverse. Hope it's nice and attractive.
