Ok... You asked for it. I am now wealthy beyond words... Three memorial cents and several crusty whatever’s... Thirty minutes in and my digging partner had enough... But then!!! One of our churches oldtimers stopped by and gave me the location of the 1800’s era church house. Our church is on a huge property. But now I think I have some golden ground to cover..... Soon as my digging partner has a nap!
Lol good job though. Today I went out. And got a quarter, two dimes two cents and a pin. And a glob again. It picked up mid range and iron could be a meteorite. Lol. Have many of those fall around here. But I don't think it would be a type of metal IDK.
I am not an expert at identifying meteorites. But heck they are constantly entering the atmosphere and I do believe that they command a very nice premium. I hope someone here has the ability to recognize whether or not that may be one. That would be awesome.
It does have metal in them it has Stone meteorites often have grains of nickel-iron in them. Metallic iron.
If it were me, I would google or do a history search of your area.... Now, in Delaware where I grew up, they are lots of great places, Maryland, etc. Old Farms that have been abandoned. They use to throw their Garbage over the furthest ravine from the house that is still within walking distance. I found a Credit card, aluminum Sear, I think it was a 1958. Really cool and gave it away, guy since died and wife has not a clue. Oh well, that was an attempt to add to a collector. She probably sold it all off. Corn Glass, everything, guy had a boat load of GREAT antiques. Also old battle sites from Revolutionary War, remember all those guys MARCHED. The Posted area's are not always the battle fields. Cooches Bridge is like that, the swamp is where the fight was, not the Bridge... Maybe along old Route 40 thru Pennsylvania or other really old roads. Good Luck, fun stuff
Such a crazy thing. View attachment 872251 View attachment 872252 It has the look of one. This is the other side of it underneath the crusty stuff.
Meteorites contain metal. Here's a quick read. I have several but you are in a area for them. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meteorite
The premium is 300$ per ounce I just read Yes I read that same thing. And it picked up iron the most. And it's heavy.
I grew up in Maryland and yes you are correct about dumps that old farm houses and plantations had. On the State property of BWI air port in my teens I go sneak on the grounds and dig up old bottles. There ia an old plantation farm house on the north side. I get a sack full and sell them. Never had an issue finding a buyer. In High School I lived in Baltimore county . Not far from my home was" soilders delight" it was the western garason to protect Baltimore from the West. It was enough land to support a 100 soilders . We would dig in the dumps and find just about everything! Leather from old shoes and boots, broken China, bottles, an old brass flint lock pistol barrel. You can Google the area for the history. But yes Brian is correct doing a little home work will put you on the honey holes.
They make great door stops! I read a story not to long ago. An old farmhouse had a rock as a door stop. The house sold and the rock was purchased and taken to an expert. It was sold for around $30,000. The old couple used it as a door stop starting in the 2940's I believe. They can bring big money but be smart and don't count the chickens before the eggs hatch.
It slightly sticks to magnit the magnet sticks on it but not strong so it doesn't stay on. It says if the meteorite has been in earth for a long time it will look rusty. And if the magnit sticks to the rock you could have a meteorite. It should weight heavier than a rock that size and it does.and that it should not have round smooth surfaces like a rock would have. Wich it doesn't have round and smooth surfaces. I have to take it somewhere to see if it's the REAL DEAL..
