Got it yesterday. 10 lire 1950, aluminium, mintage - 60000 pcs. "The Holy Year". Pope Pius XII. It's rather expencive coin (I payed 30$ for it). But it's a good price for such a high grade.
New purchase. One baiocco 1802, copper, Roma Mint. Pope Pius VII (1800-1823). I've got it for 45 $. It's not very expensive for a such coin, I suppose.
Very nice collection Siberian Man :thumb: I see it for the first time (when you started the thread, I was'nt a CT member). I have a small collection of coins minted by Popes born in my region, Marche. First of all, Pius IX 2 lire 1867 Then, Clement XI. Testone, year VI, on reverse the Three Graces petronius :smile
Another Clement XI. Giulio, year I (1700, Holy Year) On obverse, Papal arms, on reverse, the Holy Door in St. Peter's Church. This coin has a hole, closed. Was usual, at that time, to drill coins, especially those which reported religious images, to make you pass a string and fit it on the neck, for having protection of God, Virgin Mary, or Saints. Of course, the actual value of a coin with closed holes, is lower than a coin without holes petronius :smile
20 centesimi 1942, stainless steel, weight - 4,1 g., size - 21,7 mm, mintage - 125000 pcs. Engraver: Aurelio Mistruzzi. Pope Pius XII (1939-1958).
Half baiocco 1849, coper, weight - 5 g., size - 24 mm, mintage - 1921000 pcs. Ruler: Pius IX (1846-1878). Coins of this type were released at 1846-50.
My only old Vatican or Papal States coin: Papal States (Vatican) 10 Soldi 50 Centesimi 1868 - Pope Pius IX Silver, 18mm, 2.35gm, about the size of a US dime Pope Pius IX is about to become famous (again). Film producer Steven Spielberg is making a movie about him.
