In September 1978, after the death of Pope Ioannes-Paulus I, were minted this coin. This is 500 lire with the legend "SEDE VACANTE".. Silver .835, weight - 11 g., mintage - unknown.
Pope Ioannes-Paulus I (1978). He was a Pope during 33 days. And then he died. His death was very strange... Maybe he was depressed. This 1000 lire 1978 - is the only coin of the Ioannes-Paulus I. Silver .835, weight - 14,6 g. Mintage - unknown.
...buffalo shrimp, shrimp salad, shrimp on a stick, shrimp scampi, boiled shrimp, fried shrimp,....lol...nice collection, they just keep going and going. I especially like the silver coins. I've seen quite a few posts where you submit some pics from your own collection. It must have taken quite a while to amass such a collection. I've got quite a few myself but my collection would surely be dwarfed next to yours! Very nice coins though...shrimp alfredo, shrimp cocktail, shrimp pasta, shrimp fried rice...lol..just kidding...keep em' coiming! I always enjoy your posts.
Right, some of Siberian Man's topics are like a box of chocolates - you never know what you're gonna get. Great pieces, and great photos too! Interesting by the way that the Vatican circulation coins had different designs only every couple of years until about 1980. Then, different designs every year for about 20 years. Ah well, San Marino did pretty much the same ... Christian
One question ...Even thro the Church is very well to do in real estate , art work, $$$ etc etc.. I wonder who minted their coins? But who knows as it would not surprise me to see a coining press in the Basement of St Peters:bow:
As to the 1947 coin pictured above. I got mine for a few bucks, but the italian coin of the same date and twice the mintage is worth several hundred bucks.
