It's likely just plated gold on that one side but hopefully its really silver at least. If it is silver it's worth around it's spot value $4.32
Just some thoughts Linda. You have a lot to work with. I would start by sorting everything by the country. The US stuff should be easy. I'm seeing many US coins, tokens and medals. The coins will say United States and have a denomination on them. Tokens will also have a denomination. I'm seeing a few from casinos. Medals are the ones like the NRA, Piece ect. You might image the US stuff in groups once you have it sorted. You will get fast answers on it. I have to look up foreign coins one at a time but there are folks here that know what is important off the top of their head. Good luck. Hope you find something really cool.
Sound advice, but most novices are not going to know how how to sort World coins by country, and even seasoned collectors get some "headscratchers" once in a while. So just sort the pile as best you know how to, and post them in small groups of no more than four or five pieces at a time, would be my suggestion. The USA material should be easy enough to separate. Then the stuff that's in English. You get the idea. Then you can post bigger and clearer pictures of smaller groupings, which makes it easier for the folks looking at them to help out.
A lot of the circulating US coinage you have are spenders. I would also suggest to at least separate out the US coinage.
No I have never been out of the country. These were my grandmother's but she wasn't a collector...im thinking one of her suitors left it there. Just found them bout a year ago then I started buying lots here and there. I will picture them later today. Thx
One thing I like to do, is US and foreign. Then focus on the easy US first, sort by coins, tokens, and exonumia. Then read up a bit and sort each foreign coin by country. I recommend en.numista.com as a resource it is very easy to use, accounts are free, and its a great way to track your collection.
Thank you for posting photos. Your first coin is supposed to be a Mexico, 8 reales, 1882Zs,JS, with a straight J, info in link.https://www.ngccoin.com/price-guide...km-377.13-1825-1897-cuid-1118386-duid-1423401. The color and design don't look right, check it with a magnet. The second coin "Grant" looked to have some damage in op photo, but I see it is just tannish. There are some interesting coins and tokens in your mix.
The Grant dollar is part of the series the mint made. It was a failure. They were made to circulate but nobody wanted them.
