This coin is listed as a rare silver Denarius of Septimius Severus. It has god of wine " Bachus" on reverse. Struck in Rome and listed RIC 27a, the reverse shows Bachus raising his right hand very high up, and also his right foot. However the only 2 examples by RIC on Wildwinds show Bachus'right hand very low over a panther. It's a totally different position than the coin here under. The right foot is not even raised in the 2 examples. Given the rarity of this Denarius, what can we comment? S Sev O RIC27 a Rome.jpg S Sev Bachus rare Denarius.jpg

I saw this on acsearch as described...and it seems a match to yours...and sold for $50 odd dollars---similar grade and condition and raised arm like yours above a leopard....

Sorry guy, it doesn't seem to be especially scarce or rare---but I hope I'm mistaken.

Thanks a lot for the info, brother MZ. That's just fine enough.
