I suppose so. I just hate bidding against others who are unaware that it's PROBABLY fake (albeit a good one). I'd like a lottery ticket, not a guarantee of winning the lottery.

I don't gamble, which is why I don't buy keys or semi-keys that are uncertified off eBay or any other site!

It is definitely a "weathered" Chinese Counterfeit so I'm glad I'm not the winning bidder anymore.

Thanks to Typecoin for providing a link to the source "Replicator." 1796-LIBERTY-CAP-Large-Cent.jpg_640x640.jpg

Seems like you are wanting to prove that your knowledge and ability is better than the professionals. If that is a major life goal for you then this coin would be worth every penny you have TO YOU. Whether you would ever get back what you put in down range is debatable. As to unknown discoveries 170 years later I found one and reported it to Russ Rulau who listed it in his token catalog as a variety of a known HTT. It is shown as being in the Harley Bissell collection. I find that cool but it was not my goal when I reported it. I was hoping that it would be judged as a contemporary counterfeit. I have no idea whether my discovery is unique or merely the discovery piece.

I have some expertise in a very limited area of interest. TPGs have a much broader area of focus.

But I have found very rudimentary errors in basic variety identification such as "Reverse of 94/Reverse of 95/ Reverse of 96/ Reverse of 98 or Head of 93/Head of 94" identification which should not be difficult for even novice specialists. And it's not uncommon.

If they don't have expertise, they shouldn't label it as if they do.

In this case, I could tell what it wasn't and suspected it was, as discovered to be, a Chinese contemporary.

But as you discovered, sometimes it is a new discovery. Congratulations!
