AD 364-375 Siscia Mint Emperor dragging captive I got decent pictures today. At least I think so. Certainly better than the last 2 coins I posted.
Valentinian I (364 - 375 A.D.) Æ3 O: DN VALENTINIANVS PF AVG diademed, draped & cuirassed bust right. R: RESTITVTOR REIP, Valentinian standing front, head right, holding Victory and standard with X on banner. Mintmark SMKB 20mm 3.38g Cyzicus RIC 10a, B
Nice coin! Coins of Valentinian don’t get the appreciation they deserve. Here’s one of my favorites… Valentinian from Alexandria. Even all these years latter, the higher than average style from the mint can still be seen. Valentinian I - RESTITV-TOR REIP - ALEA in the exergue - Alexandria - 364/367 - RIC 2 to 1 (S) - Cohen 21
