USPS epically inept in my opinion. I do everything I can to send stuff a different method. Usually ups or fedex

Same boat here. Package shows as delivered but was not in my box. Sender has to wait for USPS to declare it lost before sender can file their insurance claim. Been a month and still waiting. Frustrating for all involved.

Please let us know how this goes. I'm curious if USPS claims that it was delivered (so therefore you are committing fraud?). They can scan it as delivered while putting it in the wrong mailbox or PO box, and then what?

I had similar USPS problems in our local facilities, where I was informed that employees are temporarily being moved to other locations, seemingly related to employee attitudes, which are "shared" with customers.

I found a facility in another small town state, with grateful employees having a positive attitude, where I receive my almost daily shipments as time allows.

    Problem Solved!!

I had an old post office about 2 blocks from my house. They had really old equipment. It took about 4 days for a letter to go half way across the US.
They built a new office about 2 miles away and it now takes only 2 days to make the same trip. Makes me think they are trying to improve.

I live about 20 miles from the nearest city. There had been times that a package was too large to fit in my mailbox. I spoke to the Post-Mistress (I hope that's the correct title.) about it. She suggested that I put a hold on my packages. Now, I get a little orange slip to notify me that a package is at the Post Office. I have their times of operation and I pick up about one a week. We have a home in the city as well. I found that U.S. Mint packages get delivered to my front porch quicker.

And REGISTERED MAIL is a chaotic nightmare. Had one such package go back and forth between my home PO and distribution center PO seven, yes SEVEN, times. Reason given was no one authorized to accept and store Registered mail was available that day. Sounds good -- except it's weak. Oh, this adventured happened BEFORE the Covid oubreak.

From distribution center to distribution center seems accurate and efficient overall. It's that last little bit where they put it in the right box that's the problem around here.

We're having a bit of trouble with the USPS over the last couple months.
Three names get mail at this address...one of the three has had a few people call with some letters, bills and stuff being returned to sender claiming to not be deliverable.
In all cases the items have had the correct address and all other information including a couple bank statements from a sender the person has banked with over 20 years.
The Postal service main guy said it doesn't look like an issue with the mail carrier ( we have had no less that 6 different over the last couple years ) most are on their phones chatting/complaining about something and you can hear them coming and going before the mail hits the mailbox.
Who knows what else doesn't get delivered that you didn't know was coming.

Interesting, I am in my 3rd year of my "second career" at the post office and am a pretty accomplished window clerk. I see an "entitled attitude" regularly across the counter but grin and bear it. I guess it goes both ways...

No offense, Jack, but I've observed both caring and nonchalant postal clerks, which I imagine are more carefully selected for their customer service skills than shipping / receiving personnel, sorters and carriers working in each post office. While I work hard to maintain a good rapport with the clerks at my local post office, they definitely treat me differently than strangers who walk in looking for help.

This is not to say that all postal workers deliver poor value, but many of them do. Those that fall short must be compensated for by those who must go above and beyond, and I think the demands on those select few who take up the slack are quite extraordinary.

I had to chase down a postal delivery guy years ago. He dropped mail in my yard addressed to a few streets over ( looked like some important papers)
I caught him at his truck and he threw the letters in a bin.
I asked him if he had my package for the postcard he left and he said he wasn't sure (hmmm, got a postcard for pickup) he looked around a bit and found the big heavyish package.
I asked why he didn't just deliver it when he was there giving me the postcard and I was home all day.
He handed over the receipt required package without my signature.
He did ask what was in the package, machine parts is what I told him...he said machine gun?:wideyed:
I said as cool as that would be No...:p

I understand this is a USPS rant, so I will start my rant about some coin dealers I have dealt with in a different post:D...

With all due respect to you, Jack, let me preface this comment with the fact that I don't condone rude behavior on either side of the counter. However, the customer is paying for a service from the USPS. Not the other way around.

As the service provider it is the obligation of the postal employee to suck it up, buttercup. If the widespread ineptitude of a preponderance of postal workers didn't disrupt the delivery system, maybe the rudeness you observe on the other side of the counter wouldn't exist. Or be lessened considerably.

Please recognize the sometimes sensitive, valuable, proprietary, personal, legal, nature of the objects we entrust the postal service to handle for us. I realize that the ratio of junk mail to important mail must look like 99:1 to a postal employee. And because of that observation the successfully delivered, no recognizable problem mail is probably 99% on point. So postal employees probably feel they're doing a 5-star job.

Unfortunately, getting the roofing company, local Chinese restaurant menu, hearing aid company, lawncare business, solicitations don't count as a success story for the mail recipient. We want/need our important documents and valuable packages successfully delivered, 100% of the time. The issue clearly being conveyed here is that the success percentage is nowhere near acceptable. Notice I didn't say it isn't 100%. Realistically speaking nobody should expect the success rate to be 100%. Although each of us wants OUR success rate to be perfect.

Bottom line, I don't believe the USPS counter pertain deserves to be verbally abused. The thing is, that counter person is the first line of defense for the USPS management. Basically they are the eyes and ears of the company. Those are the employees that are going to hear it from the disgruntled, dissatisfied customer.

Considering the amount of that rudeness that I also see at grocery checkouts, gas stations, and ESPECIALLY big-box retailers... I'm going to call this "wishful thinking".

IMHO, responses that start with "no offense" and "with all due respect" are clear indicators of what is coming. I'll refrain from any further comment on this thread while I look for a buttercup to suck on...

I feel compelled to report some improvements I've seen lately with both USPS "front people" that normally meet or greet "customers", and generally at Walmart.

Some of the individuals that I encountered in the past as disgruntled, have been "relocated", and there are more civil greetings for customers, especially at Walmart in my vicinity.

Now, if we're to discuss internet contact with these firms, their sites definitely were designed by uninformed "committees".
