Interesting exercise

How about doing the Exercise with 1909 S VDB Lincoln Cents. Asking AI to attribute it to one of the 4 dies used for the cent's production. Giving it an image of a genuine example and then another test using an image of a counterfeit example?

I don't think there are enough references, articles, images, and discussions online for it to "scan" or agentic inference or whatever it's called....to come to a conclusion.

There's just very little source material as opposed to "Why does California have so many and so powerful earthquakes" ? or something like that.

 

I would think there are multitudes more references, articles, images and discussions online for the Lincoln Cent 1909-S VDB than there are for Bust Halves and Bust Quarters as used in the poster's original tests.

First coin:


It asked "Tell me about this coin" and it called it a fake.



This coin:

Basically said I can't see VDB so 1909-S.



Now this coin:



It said this was a better example, but said "the S appears to be in correct zone", VDB in about the right location but then concluded with this.



I would say give it a whirl yourself. I have got to see if I can get images of my 1909 S-VDB and my 1922 Plain to see what it says. Just don't feel like pulling them out of the album right now.

You may convince me into finally upgrading. Even so - I'll still keep my old reliable XP system.

 

My queries are simple on chatgpt. I just drag a picture into the question box and say tell me about this coin. Then depending on the coin - I may ask for an attribution. Like on the 1819/8 coin - what newcomb number is it? It gets it wrong I might say this is actually 1819/8 N-1. Are these coins -simply asked tell me about this coin. It got 1 right, 1 it said I can't see VDB so 1909-S and the last it said this coin is very interesting - it looks like a 1909 S VDB, things look right - but send to PCGS or NGC for verification.

We according to google - xp machines need more stuff (like a javagpt) to make it work. On mine all I did was find free chatgpt. Go to that site - then I think after 3 or 4 queries it asked me how to log on to continue? Google was an option so I did that and been having a lot of fun since then.
