In this case, the answer to your original question is "yes." The mint is trying to make money and these have numismatic value, being US Mint products. Whether that numismatic value is or will ever be the amount the Mint is selling them for is a different question that I cannot answer.

First set of photos were just to show the mint packaging. Here are a better set of photos to get a look at the surfaces. Obverse is a little grainy and satin luster while the reverse is just gorgeous.

The price of $40 is a little steep for the intrinsic silver value, but I like it and will continue to collect the entire series. I have some of these in brass and they are not nearly as impressive in that alloy.

My son got one of these. But, I don't think I did. It did in fact advertise the silver medals for Washington and Adams. I didn't see anything about a Morgan dollar. You can see the same offerings on the Mint Web.

$40 is more than twice the value of silver. I can't see the item ever being that valuable. It is all in what your collection interests are.

The reverse is much too similar to the 2004 Jefferson Nickel. I prefer a little more originality.

Ooh, just what I need - more utterly pointless overpriced 1 ounce hunks of silver, ... NOT!!! ALL of these designs are retreads. Nothing new here except the size and metal. I had the whole set in bronze and gave it to my son.

It's the Bloody 'Peace Medal', passed around and bestowed upon Native American chiefs by Lewis and Clark.........how much more original can you get?

Because they used the same design on the Washington medal.
That's what I am referring to. They recycled the design.

Exactly. NONE OF THESE are going to be ANYTHING but retreads in silver. They are all pre-determined and that Peace Medal Reverse will be EVERYWHERE for awhile.

Intentionally so. It’s the only way they can sell silver without new legislation.

Yeah, I like POTUS stuff, and I like silver. Stop trying to yuck my yum!

And this collection is gonna look amazing when I have them all.

At 4 a year, I’d never expect to make it that far. I’m already playing on borrowed time. My injury in 2009 had a 100% fatality rate in the 1980’s. It’s identical to Nixon’s cause of death. Same severity, same location. I stand completely ineligible for life insurance, at ANY premium amount. I do have a group policy, at work, but that’s all I can get. If I stop taking all my “evil Big Pharma” drugs, I’ll be dead within 10 days.

It’s why I get so torqued up and hacked off when all my those “herb jockeys” get on here and spout their nonsense. I get so angry at those AM radio nature-pathic snake oil selling shows, I shut off the radio by throwing stuff at it. I used to be a thirty-something indestructible testosterone bag, too. Time changes life.

I still fight battles, just with briefs, arguments, and precedents, and I’m teaching a Continuing Legal Education course next month. And I’m not even a lawyer. I’m also undefeated in court in my specialty, both as a party and a consultant. I get people thrown off ballots.

By that logic, you shouldn’t worry about your toned coins turning either. Here’s hoping you beat the odds!

I hope you beat the odds Kurt. Are you referring to Nixon's phlebitis?

  18. V. Kurt Bellman

    V. Kurt Bellman Yes, I'm blunt! Get over your "feeeeelings".

No, the proximate cause of his death - a cerebral hemorrhage along the left side of the brain, pretty much right behind the top of the ear. Without newly developed drugs to rapidly bring down the brain swelling near the bleed, I would have died, just as Nixon did. I barely was able to avoid brain surgery with those drugs. And the 10 prescription drugs I take every day keep me from a repeat performance.

So when the "alternative medicine herb jockeys" get on here with their nonsense, I really get irritated.

There is no drug powerful enough to get me to NOT get irritated by alternative medicine quacks.

The desigm was originally on the Jefferson Peace medal back in 1804. The Mint has been making Presidental medals in various sizes and metals for decades and that was the design they used for the Washing reverse. It is the 2004 nickel that is the copycat. It should be the item you complain about lack of originally about.
