Rick's post made me think of something. If you have a redbook it shows the various types of heads through the years. Posted that before Frank showed up.
For those who say the coin is ruined, believe it or not these altered 1815's tend to bring some good money. Dan Holmes had three of them in his sale and they went from $98 to $230. (To be fair the $98 were higher grade than the OP coin and the $230 one was made from a rare variety, low grade and counterstamped) He also had three made for Classic heads and they ranged from $506 to over $2,000. The OP coin as a 45 in that condition is probably a $5 item. But as a 15 it would probably sell for $15 to $25. So it is actually worth MORE altered.
