Been a lifetime Cub fan myself. The first game I went to at Wrigley was the Cub vs the Dodgers; Sandy Kofax was pitching for the Dodgers. You can guess who won the game.
I still remember the excitement when the Cubs "stole" Ernie Broglio for the perennial bench warmer Lou Brock. Yeah, right! Growing up in Oklahoma all my friends wanted to be Mickey Mantle during pick-up games...I wanted to be Ernie Banks. My sole ambition was to take over at shortstop when he moved on...then I figured out that I was left handed. LOL
"WOW" Really nice coins getting better and better for each year!!!!!!!!!!! VERY NICE COLLECTION SO FAR!!!!!!!!
I know this is out of order, but it was a date that was skipped for obvious reasons (very scarce and very expensive). The only reason I have this is for a type set.
Interesting die cracks. Imagine over two hundred years ago, being one of the guys cranking the press by hand when these were made, wondering every time you heard a ‘pop’ or ‘crack’ if you could still press at least one more planchet into a coin before having to replace the die - again.
I'm so envious . I've only begun to collect capped bust & seated liberty halves , I'm hoping to collect an example of the Flowing Hair & Drapped Bust coins .
I believe Koufax threw an el perfecto against the Cubs in 1965. I’ve been a Cubs fan since the 70s when a rinky dink cable TV system in West Texas had WGN when they telecasted all the games.
