The courts determined that all others were still legally owned by the mint because the mint had not released to anyone - the mint had not monetized the coins. But yet all of those coins had obviously left the mint building. They just hadn't left the mint building legally - according to the mint and the courts anyway.</p><p><br /></p><p>And the '33 double eagles are not the only coins where this has happened. The exact same thing has happened with many different kinds of coins.
