I came across this coin design on the internet for a $1 president coin (Van Buren), and noticed how the reverse (or obverse?) design was that of a seated liberty. Obviously the real one is of the statue of liberty. Was this a proposed design that was struck (or only designed), and later rejected for the current design? I personally like this design much better than the Statue of Liberty one we have now. Thanks in advance! ------ Current one (as you all know):
Not to my knowledge. Both Ron Landis and Dan Carr have done small dollar concept tokens. Ron Landis / Gallery Mint concept dollars: http://www.smalldollars.com/dollar/page17.html Dan Carr concept dollars: http://www.smalldollars.com/dollar/page17a.html
The Seated liberty was part of the First Spouse medal/gold coin program. https://www.usmint.gov/learn/coin-and-medal-programs/medals/first-spouse-medals
Oh nice! I wish they put it on a coin and not a medal. It does look very different though... no W mint mark, no "IN GOD WE TRUST", etc.
nvm it is on the gold coin you mention, it's the $10 1/2 oz gold coin! https://www.usmint.gov/coins/coin-medal-programs/first-spouse-gold-coins/martin-van-burens-liberty
The overall design is great, but that face needs/needed more attention. Wow, one ugly dude in that gown.
