i did. i follow your advise dear. i bought 20 first spouses only. 10 proof and 10 unc. i bought before the price change. that's two hours before change. i used 15% of my sold stocks. two stocks. keep the rest for the coming 2010 platinum proof set and 2010 american buffalo one ounce proof. 4 pc platinum proof set will cost a lot. plan to buy few sets. said 10 set. gold should be o.k. and continue its uptrend. but gold will always corrected if necessary. and those unexpected bad event happen. in fact, the gold should move up instead. still bullish on gold. still buying gold. that's me. my advise to you. buy a set of 4 pc platinum proof. i will tell you why?. but not now. o.k.
Can't wait to see your images of your new coins when they arrive. Did you buy a camera on your trip to Japan? No platinum coins for me... no way Jose! Ugly dull metal color and bad designs. That metal seems due for a correction too. Last year was a gold year for me. This year is mainly about silver in bullion form plus an AGB for the collection. I'm not happy with US Mint Proofs anymore either. Unc bullion is fine for my collection. If the US Mint ever returns with unc mintmark coins, all the better. Proof quality is not what it used to be, looks too grainy instead of nicely frosted.
you are right. i notice the 09 AGB proof look ugly compare to the previous years. i think the proof quality is also keep diminishing. but then the slabbed companies keep certified those coins to at least 69 and mostly 70. can you believe it?. i don't even have to send any coin for certifying. because i presume all my coins were all 69 to 70. right krispy?.
That's right. Most modern US Mint coins come out with a high degree of quality which TPGs recognize in their 69/70 grades that bring the most money. I like Mint coins in OGP and will not buy 70 grades, only up to 69 for me.
i suggest don't buy any 69's coins. if you buy. the price will be a little bit over raw coin. but if you sell them. it will be less than raw coin. just buy the original products from the mint. right now. most coin were being slabbed. someday. you will see people taking those coins out from the plastic. and see those slabbed companies collapse or bankrupt. time will tell.
I don't pay too much for TPG coins and I only buy those for certain numismatic coins, like Ike dollars, Jefferson nickels, classic US gold coins... I'm very careful with those prices on those items for my collection. I don't buy into the whole marketing of 'value' and am good at judging the grade myself. I never buy bullion versions in TPG plastic.
