As of 12:07pm today, the mint has not changed the prices.

Doesn't seem much point in the Mint loosing time and resources today to update/reprice the coins since tomorrow is the release day of the 2009 Proof AGB. They are going to have to make that catalog page live tomorrow anyway so why not just change the prices tomorrow. Anyone who wants a coin at the current price that badly and can't wait could still pay more to the Mint today for it. According to where gold price is at now and if it's there again tomorrow, going by the Mint's pricing grid, I suspect that when the site goes down tomorrow, just before noon when the AGB goes on sale, that is when you will see the lowered prices across the catalog. That's my guess on how they will choose to handle it. I'm sure they are aware that people know of the re-pricing grid and will hold off buying other products until tomorrow, despite any slowness from site traffic, tomorrow. :eating:

Prices are always updated on Thursday and only on Thursday.

Is that so? only on Thursdays? I don't think so. I thought repricing had to do with the average market price of gold for 3 (or 4?) days in a row, which would be followed with a +/- repricing according to the values listed in U.S. Mint Coin Pricing Guide.

While you are correct that it has to do with average gold prices, it is not a rolling average but rather a discrete average measured weekly:

"The new pricing methodology is based primarily on the London Fix weekly average (average of the London Fix prices covering the previous Thursday A.M. Fix through
the Wednesday A.M. Fix) gold prices"

    Source: http://catalog.usmint.gov/wcsstore/ConsumerDirect/images/catalog/en_US/GoldCoinGrid.pdf

Thus the price is set on Thursday based on the trailing week's average London AM fix. I think that this update occurs at 12:00 Eastern, but I wouldn't swear to that.

Okay. I thought I'd seen Wednesday repricing before so I was holding on to that.

no. the price adjustment is supposed to be on Thursday. but sometimes it occurred on Wednesday. and the time for changing varies.

Thanks elaine. I thought I had seen these changes occur on Wednesday before. This is the Mint after all, they don't always seem to follow their own procedures I suppose.

Touche. Seems I play too much by the rule book, and I admit I don't check it weekly for repricing. My mistake... or the mints?

no one is to blame for it. no one will know what is the next step coming from the mint. the mint is just playing game with us. soon the mint gonna take all money from us.

wait for next thursday. if you are planning to buy mint gold products. the stock market is on the correction. gold too will follow. we might get $100.00 less for 09 buffalo proof and UHR double eagle. or if not. we can still get $50.00 less. DON'T BUY TOMORROW. unless the mint reduce the price.

elaine: Here's your chance, Apmex reduced the price of many things like the 1976 3 pcs silver proof sets as part of their liquidation / promotion to get rid of numismatic inventory. I remember you wanted to order 100 sets of these. These are complete with the holder, 3 encapsulated proof coins and the Mint 'insert' that came with this set (a forerunner of the COA) .

thanks krispy. i think the quality is not so great. beside this set is down recently. the buying is only $11.00 right now. currently i am concentrate on gold coins. 4 gold coin to consider from the u.s. mint. UHR double eagle, 09 buffalo proof, julie tyler gold, anna harrison gold. by the way. did you buy any 09 buffalo proof?. if yes. how many?. or maybe you prefer wait and see. just like me. i think next week. it should go down. but only $50.00. the trend is still up. like the stock market.

That is a very cool site, thanks for the link. Do you know what to expect from their rolls? Are they picked through or original or luck of the draw?

  21. krispy

    krispy krispy

Danr: I don't know about their rolls, but they don't seem to bother with checking other items, they tack on their premium (which isn't to excessive) and sell everything in the appropriate category.

elaine: what do you mean, " i think the quality is not so great", these are Proof sets, there's nothing wrong with them, if there was they'd list problems as they do on other grades or blemished coins. They only have 8 sets left anyway, using the 9999 quantity trick
