Hi everyone, I bought a siglos a while ago at Savoca Coins and was just wondering if any of you could help answer a question of mine. This siglos is extremely underweight, at 3.04g, which I assume is just due to all the pitting. I was wondering if any of you could suggest how this pitting occurs (to such an extent), and if any other non-fourree sigloi are this light? I haven't come across any like it. Best wishes, AncientNumis
I have no idea what the purity of the metal is with these coins--although I probably could easily look it up if I wasn't so lazy (but then again, if I'm really that lazy, why am I taking the time to write about how lazy I am when this has nothing to do with the coin in question)--but if there was much copper mixed in with the silver it could leach out of the coin over time and leave the pitted silver behind.
