Unusual penny box find. 1940 German 5 Pfennig. Berlin mint mark.

    Don't expect to see 'Hitler money'. Sad thing is... it's common in circulated grade and can be bought for 25 cents or so. Still, I'd like to find one just so that I could say that I did!

    Due to the date and mint, I speculated, this coin was probably in the pocket of some very bad people; maybe came to the U.S. with a returning soldier.

    These are very common and many made their way back to the US with soldiers returning home. The A mint mark is for Berlin, which is also the most common mint. These usually corrode and are in poor condition. Yours looks decent, but is still only worth about 25-50 cents

    At 2.5 grams, zinc, and 19mm should be the exact same as a current zincoln.
    20 cents. $1 if in very good condition.
