Unusual denomination...

    My AV 3/4 Dukat 1745 from Imperial City of Frankfurt
    Commerative issue to mark the "election of Franz I as Holy Roman Emperor" Franz of Lorraine was married to Maria Theresia. c5cc4b9db5d4e1963a4e9fcc157c58b9.jpg

    Why did they mint such an odd denomination? Was it because it was the right size? Are there many others of this denomination?

    I think this is a rare issue. With Dukat coinage there were many unusual denominations. From the really tiny 1/32 Dukat upto the massive 105 Zecchini of Venice. Salzburg had 16/24/28/36/44 Dukats. There were also 6/7/8/9 Dukaten. Certainly a treasure trove of material for super rich collectors.
