Unsearched rolls or lots?

    Hey all,

mice been collecting for a bit but just recently started buying some rolls and lots on eBay such as wheat pennies and sadly the typical “original “ bank roll Morgan’s plagued on eBay. After buying an embarrassing amount of these I can attest that these are put together because they are all common dates and the CC ends for the Morgan’s are always the 3 least common 82, 83, and the 84. Also I have found that any mercury dime rolls, Buffalo rolls, or wheat rolls or large lots that say un searched, are always searched. It’s almost obvious because you never find even a decent date or grade of coins. So my question is, are there any reputable sellers or places to look that you guys have had luck with? I’d like to continue hunting rolls or lots but not ones that have been completely picked through. I’m interested in the older US coins not anything that’s common date. I have tried Google but can’t find much. Thanks for any tips or advice.

    best regards,
    Travis

Glad to hear you found out those rolls are BS! :D Hope you didn't spend too much, finding out! Unsearched rolls are always going to be a way for someone to get over, your best bet is not to buy anymore, from anyone!

Now that you have learned what "unsearched" means on SleazeBay, the next thing you want to avoid are those coins or rolls that "Granny kept in her underwear drawer for 50 years".

Let’s not talk about the dollar amount, it’s in the past now LOL!
Any idea on where to look at all there’s got to be somewhere? Very addicting my wife thought I was crazy how much I was enjoying it lol

When was the last time that you found a Morgan silver dollar in a bank-wrapped roll of Ike dollars? That's about how often you will find "legitimate lots" anywhere. Don't shoot yourself in the foot AGAIN!

No, I don't know of anyone at all who sells unsearched rolls, none of the coin shops I go to sell them at all. In all honesty, I think it was created on Ebay and is pretty much exclusive to Ebay. :D You're better off going to the casino and playing cards, that way you have a better chance that you'll get something for your money!

Why anybody would sell unsearched rolls anyway, knowing there is potentially something more profitable there.

There is no such thing as an unsearched roll. Even machine wrapped rolls were looked at before they were wrapped. I see ads for unsearched wheats all the time. If they were truly unsearched, how would you know they are all wheats? Or Buffalos or whatever? No, they were searched and cherrypicked. Some dealers will seed one good coin in the roll (usually an ender) just to get you to buy it, such as, they'll put an Indian Head cent or a Merc or Barber dime at the end of a roll of wheat cents, just to get you to buy it. Don't fall for this.

I'm sure any coins found in granny's underwear drawer would have crappy toning.

There is no such thing in the coin hobby as unsearched rolls or lots. The best you can do is buy mixed lots from reputable dealers or friends. Then, you will only get common dates and mints. You can get unsearched rolls from the bank, but they are primarily modern commons.

I almost fell for thea unsearched rolls on eBay. Then I got to thinking.....How could there be that many unsearched rolls out there? Especially Morgan rolls with CC enders....one guy has been selling them for months....plus several others are doing it too. Wheat penny rolls......way to many being sold. Read all their feedbacks, and figured out something was not kosher, and decided not to go down that path. I agree with Goossens post. If I found a bunch of old rolls I knew were unsearched, I would go through them, not sell them on eBay.

THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS UNSEARCHED. How did they get in the wrappers? On a lark, I purchased 10 rolls of "1909-1958 unsearched, sealed bank wrapped wheat cent rolls" I paid $79.00 for them, and sat down with my grasndson and enjoyed going through them with him. I explained to him how people with make outlandish promises about "Unsearched" when in fact they are not. of the 10 rolls there was 1 1909 at best G-4, and many repeat dates.
The money was in this case a lesson for my grandson and I would rather I spend the $$ and not him. Oh, by the way he did offer free shipping.
If the state UNSEARCHED it is a lie!

    Hi,

The best I can suggest to you is to ask your bank tellers whether they have any customer rolled coins you can buy. Sometimes people will have to roll up coins of their own or of a deceased family member in order to deposit them in the bank. I find searching those more rewarding than ebay rolls or even boxes of coins.

So I’m better off sticking to just buying my coins how I usually do I guess, I had such hope in humanity for a second

I think that’s why I asked I had a lot of fun going through the coins almost like a scratch off in a sense but finally knew that I was not going to win anything.
